The original drawing must be done with a pencil soft and dark enough to allow two transfers-B or HB usually will do. Place the original copy face down on a sheet of tracing tissue and rub firmly all over the back of the drawing with a smooth burnisher, transferring the graphite from the drawing to the tracing paper (the image will show on the tracing paper in mirror image). Now repeat this process, transferri~lgthe tracing-paper image to the final ground. In the single-transfer method, blacken the back of the original sketch with a soft graphite pencil (3B), tape the sketch right side up on the final ground, and retrace the original lines with a sharp-pointed, hard lead.
